Back
Carol H. Dotin
It has been nearly 25 years since I was introduced to the magic of clay. For many years I was enthralled with the pleasures of throwing functional pottery on the wheel. The pure physical act of throwing and its immediate sense of gratification were a large part of the attraction. Within five minutes I knew whether I had a pot or not—never mind the rest of the process which involved trimming, additions, drying, bisque-firing, glazing, and the final Cone 10 firing. A return to clay after a 13-year absence led me to explore the slower-paced pleasures of hand building after I recognized the physical and inspirational limitations of throwing. It has been within this process that I have found a passion and a means of expressing and exploring my creative visions as well as my personal view of the world.
